What About Wallpaper?
As long as I can remember I've loved wallpaper. Not a lot, not every room in the house, but it was the closest thing to having murals painted in your house for the middle class. I always felt fancy that my mom and I redid our dining room when I was about 14, installing floral wallpaper panels in the wainscoting and then painting the rest of the wall the darkest burgundy above the chair rail. None of my friends had that in their houses!
Wallpaper has the power to completely change the feeling of a home in a way paint simply can’t. It adds soul, texture, movement, and personality to a room. It can make a powder room feel jewel-box dramatic, soften a bedroom, add old-world character to a dining room, or create the layered warmth that makes a house feel collected over time. Some people think wallpaper is trendy, but honestly, we see it as timeless. Historic homes have used wallcoverings for centuries, and the right wallpaper never feels dated — it feels intentional.
One of our favorite things about wallpaper is that there are so many different types, each creating a completely different mood.
Grasscloth Wallpaper
Grasscloth is one of the most beloved wallcoverings in luxury interiors because of the texture and warmth it brings to a space. It is NOT my personal favorite because I'm not properly Southern. I think it's a bit too natural looking for me, but that's why everyone LOVES IT! It’s typically made from woven natural fibers like jute, sisal, hemp, or arrowroot. The subtle variation and imperfect texture are exactly what make it beautiful.
Grasscloth is especially beautiful in:
Dining rooms
Offices
Bedrooms
Libraries
Hallways
We love it because it adds depth without overwhelming a room. It feels elevated, organic, and quietly luxurious.
* One important note: authentic grasscloth is delicate and usually not ideal for wet or high-traffic spaces unless carefully selected. YES, they now make vinyl look alikes but once you get close you can tell it's not the real thing.
Block Print Wallpaper
Block print wallpaper has a handcrafted, artisanal feel that we absolutely love. These patterns often feel imperfect in the best way — soft edges, layered inks, and repeating motifs that feel collected instead of mass-produced.
They work beautifully in:
Powder rooms
Mudrooms
Breakfast rooms
Children’s rooms
Cozy bedrooms
Block prints bring charm and personality without trying too hard.
Murals & Scenic Wallpaper
Murals are where wallpaper becomes art. Scenic wallpapers and murals create atmosphere and storytelling in a home. We especially love these in dining rooms, foyers, and bedrooms where you want a room to feel transportive and memorable.
A mural can:
Add architectural interest to plain walls
Create softness in large rooms
Bring nature indoors
Make a room feel layered and custom
Vinyl & Performance Wallpaper
Not all wallpaper is delicate. Vinyl and performance wallcoverings are durable, wipeable, and often ideal for family homes. These are wonderful options for:
Bathrooms
Laundry rooms
Kids’ spaces
Commercial spaces
Busy hallways
Pool houses
Today’s performance wallpapers have become incredibly sophisticated and can mimic grasscloth, linen, plaster, or painted textures beautifully.
Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper
Peel-and-stick wallpaper has improved tremendously over the years and can be a good option for places like behind a bookcase, or a pantry that you know you will want to change up in 3 years. We typically recommend simpler patterns or faux textures for the easiest installation.
That said, professionally installed traditional wallpaper almost always gives the most seamless, luxurious result and I'll never recommend it for anything big.
Why We Continue to Love Wallpaper
Wallpaper creates emotion in a home. It adds warmth, history, intimacy, and personality in a way that flat paint often cannot. We love how it changes throughout the day as light shifts across texture and pattern. We love how it can make even a small room unforgettable.
Most importantly, wallpaper helps a home feel personal- which is exactly what we do!!
Not every room needs wallpaper. But the right room with the right wallcovering can completely transform the way a house feels to live in. If you scroll through our feeds you will find lots of fun places we've transformed homes with wallpaper!
